Welcome to my own Brooklyn rental apartment! My family and I had been considering moving back to NYC after our daughter went to college, so we tried it on for size for a year to see if it was a fit for us. New York is where my husband and I both grew up…me on Long Island and him in Brooklyn. I moved to the city for college and stayed there through my mid 20’s. I have a special place in my heart for NYC and I always will. It’s where I met my husband, where my daughter was born, where are families both still are and my artsy heart is so happy and inspired there. At first I was on the fence about how much to invest into this place because I wasn’t sure how long we would stay, but then I decided I would regret it if I didn’t play fully with this canvas while I had it. This place was like my giant, livable art project. I built a large majority of the pieces in here, including our bed, coffee table, lounge chair, desk, fireplace surround. I sewed cushions, curtains, pillows, I made the painting above the sofa, I had a blast. All that being said, we decided (at least for the time being) that we are happy living in Massachusetts and don’t really love having two homes to maintain! So, we let this little gem go at the beginning of 2025. Living part time in NYC was such a big learning lesson and one I really needed to experience, so I would know for sure what my heart wanted. I am so glad we did this and I highly recommend getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things! It’s where the magic of life exists.
